Kerry Gilbert - rhythm guitar, vocals

KERRY WAS BORN AND RAISED IN RUSSELLVILLE, AL. THE SON OF A CHURCH OF CHRIST MINISTER, KERRY GREW UP SINGING IN THE CHURCH. HE DEVELOPED HIS KEEN EAR FOR HARMONY THERE. HIS GREATEST JOY WAS GETTING TOGETHER WITH HIS FAMILY AND SINGING GOSPEL TUNES. HIS SISTER AND TWO BROTHERS ALL HAD THE ABILITY, AS WELL, TO HEAR HARMONIES, AND SING THEM WELL. HIS FAMILY IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO HIM, SECOND TO HIS RELATIONSHIP TO GOD.

KERRY REMEMBERS, AS A CHILD, GOING PLACES WITH HIS PARENTS, RIDING IN THE BACK SEAT, LISTENING TO 8-TRACK TAPES OF THE STATLER BROTHERS AND THE OAK RIDGE BOYS. HE WOULD SING THE BASS PARTS, TRYING TO COPY THEM AS BEST AS HIS YOUNG VOICE WOULD ALLOW. HE WAS SINGING BASS, AT A VERY EARLY AGE. HE STATES, " I GUESS I WAS HITTING SOME OF THOSE BASS NOTES AROUND THE AGE OF 11.  HE ALWAYS DREAMED OF ONE DAY, SINGING WITH THE OAK RIDGE BOYS.

HE STARTED  PLAYING THE PIANO IN THE SECOND GRADE.  He WISHES NOW HE  HAD LISTENED TO HIS MOTHER, AND PRACTICED THE PIANO MORE.  HE GOT A LITTLE OLDER, STARTED PLAYING FOOTBALL AND WATCHING GIRLS, LEAVING THE PIANO BEHIND AFTER THE EIGHTH GRADE. AS HE ENTERED HIGH SCHOOL, HE AND A COUPLE OF FRIENDS STARTED A TRIO, SINGING THE GATLIN BROS. AND THE OAK RIDGE BOYS' SONGS ACCAPELA.

THIS INSPIRED HIM SO MUCH, THAT WHEN THEY GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL, THEY DECIDED TO CONTINUE SINGING TOGETHER, AND FORMED A QUARTET. THEY CALLED THEMSELVES MOUNTAIN BREEZE. THIS WAS THE SUMMER OF 1985. THEY BEGAN PLAYING FUNDRAISERS AND LOCAL EVENTS. AND BEFORE LONG, THEY DEVELOPED QUITE A FOLLOWING. MOUNTAIN BREEZE TRAVELED WITH A FOUR PIECE BAND, PLAYING MOSTLY IN ALABAMA, TENNESSEE, AND MISSISSIPPI. THEY DID THE FAIR CIRCUITS, AND HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF BEING THE OPENING ACT FOR NUMEROUS WELL KNOWN MAJOR RECORDING ARTISTS, INCLUDING GEORGE STRAIT.

AFTER TAKING A YEAR OFF,IN 1992, KERRY COULDN'T STAND IT ANYMORE. HE WAS MISSING THE MUSIC BUSINESS. IT WAS IN HIS BLOOD.

HE FELT THAT HE NEEDED TO BE SINGING AGAIN. SO HE GOT HIS CONTACT BOOK OUT, AND STARTED WHERE HE LEFT OFF. HE BEGAN TO BOOK CONVENTIONS, WEDDING RECEPTIONS, AND LOCAL EVENTS.

THIS TIME, HE WANTED SOMETHING A LITTLE DIFFERENT. AS OPPOSED TO THE EIGHT PIECE BAND ( FOUR SINGERS AND FOUR PICKERS), THAT HE WAS ACCUSTOMED TO, HE DECIDED TO PUT TOGETHER A SELF-CONTAINED GROUP, HAVING ONLY FIVE MUSICIANS AND EACH OF THEM CONTRIBUTING TO THE VOCAL HARMONIES. KERRY PICKED UP THE ACOUSTIC GUITAR AND TAUGHT HIMSELF HOW TO PLAY. IT PROVED TO BE A GREAT EFFORT, HAVING A SMALLER BAND.

AND AFTER HAVING THE PLEASURE OF WORKING WITH SOME OF THE SHOALS AREAS GREATEST MUSICIANS, KERRY FEELS THAT HE HAS FINALLY FOUND THE RIGHT COMBINATION.

"THIS BAND WE HAVE NOW, IS THE BEST COLLECTION OF MUSICIANS THAT I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH", HE STATES. KERRY IS AMAZED AT HOW GOOD THE ATTITUDE OF THIS BAND IS. HE SAYS THAT THESE GUYS ARE LIKE FAMILY TO HIM. "I REALLY DO LOVE THESE GUYS. I HAVE WORKED WITH WELL OVER 100 MUSICIANS, SINCE 1985, AND I HAVE SHARED THE STAGE WITH SOME VERY HIGHLY RESPECTED PICKERS. BUT THIS COMBINATION WORKS FOR US", HE ADDS.

KERRY IS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE FUTURE WITH THIS BAND, THE KGB.

Jim Seales - Guitar, Vocals

Jim Seales was born in Hamilton, Alabama to Wayne and Betty Seales.  The family moved to Moline, Illinois when Jim was young and he had the luxury of spending his formative years going back and forth from Illinois to Alabama...good way to get a taste of both cultures.

No doubt that he comes from a musical family...his mother and father and all his uncles played music and subsequently all his brothers and sisters...needless to say family gatherings filled any room with music.  Jim's dream was to become an English teacher and that's where he set his sights, but God had different plans and he began to gravitate more and more towards music.

In 1984 Jim moved back to Alabama, this time to Muscle Shoals.  He signed a writing deal with Fame Studios and began working as a songwriter and playing guitar on records.  He also put together a band to work at the old MGM club in Muscle Shoals...that band became the nucleus of what was to become Shenandoah.

The band secured a record deal in 1987 and hit the road in 1988.  They were so blessed to have 13 number one records, 3 Gold albums and to have earned TNN, ACm, CMA, and Grammy awards over the next ten years as they traveled all over the world.

In 1998 Shenandoah scaled back from doing nearly 200 dates a year to give the members a chance to pursue some other interests...Jim went back to his real passion, teaching.  He is currently teaching guitar full-time at Counts Brothers Music in Muscle Shoals and enjoys a full roster of students.  He still does about 30 Shenandoah dates a year and enjoys working in the various studios in town and occasionally in Nashville.  When asked about playing guitar with the KGB, Jim says, "I love the guys and the intimacy of the crowds we play to, and it gives me a break from the structure of teaching and the studio, and I have the freedom to just relax and experiment and go out on a limb...I'm having the time of my life."

Donny Carpenter - Fiddle / Vocals

Fiddle player Donny Carpenter takes pride in having grown up in and around Muscle Shoals, AL and gives credit, primarily, to the influence of the music and musicians of the Shoals area for the way he plays. He began learning to play the fiddle, an instrument he considers to be an extension of his very heart and soul, at the age of 10, after a few years of begging his parents for “one of those little guitars they play with a stick.” After taking basic instruction and invaluable tips from local greats Larry McWilliams and Al Lester, fiddler conventions and bluegrass festivals with Bell Terry and The Alabama Grass gave Donny the experience he needed to begin working with local nightclubs bands. Over the years, he’s kept himself active in various venues and recording studios around Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee in an effort to “keep the chops up.” Among a few others, you may find Donny’s credit on Jerry Reed’s album “The Bird,” recorded at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals where, at age 17, the humbled fiddler was given the opportunity to play on three tracks including the hit single “Down on the Corner.” Donny’s skills have been featured on countless song demos by some of the industry’s best writers and producers and, from 2001 to date, he has toured with artists Blake Shelton, Rebecca Lynn Howard, and the group Heartland.
